Softball Defeated 4-3 at UAlbany in Regular Season Finale

Bearcats will carry No. 2 seed into upcoming conference tournament

ALBANY, N.Y. – Host UAlbany (21-18, 11-7 AE) scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Binghamton (29-16, 13-7 AE) 4-3 in an America East softball game on Saturday afternoon at UAlbany Field. With the loss, the Bearcats were swept by the Great Danes in their three-game conference series.

The game marked the final regular-season contest for the Bearcats, who will now go into the America East Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The four-day event will be held this coming Wednesday-Saturday and be hosted by UMBC.

For the third straight game, Binghamton jumped out to a 2-0 lead over UAlbany, only to watch the Great Danes come back and win by the same identical score (4-3).

Senior catcher Quinn DeCicco belted a two-run double in the top of the fourth inning, giving the Bearcats their early lead. In the bottom of the same inning, however, Maddie Petrella homered and the Binghamton lead was sliced to 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Albany got a two-run double by Sierra Fretz and an RBI single by Chloe Lewis to take a 4-2 lead.

Graduate student second baseman Alli Richmond led off the top of the seventh inning with her team-best fifth home run of the season. The Bearcats, however, left a pair of runners on base when the game ended three outs later.

Kate Powers improved to 8-4 with the win while redshirt sophomore Lindsey Walter was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 6-4.

Sophomore outfielder Laney Harbaugh was 2-for-4.

Junior first baseman Allison L'Amoreaux, who scored on DeCicco's double, was 1-for-3 with a double of her own. In the process, she stretched her team-best hitting streak to a career-high nine games.

Richmond is now second on the team with 28 RBI.

Binghamton will take on the winner of the first-round America East Tournament game between No. 3 UAlbany and No. 6 Maine. That game will be on Thursday at 1:30.
