ALBANY, N.Y. – Binghamton baseball (24-17, 10-8 America East) rode the bat of sophomore second baseman
Nick Roselli to a 12-5 win over host Albany (8-29-1, 2-16 AE) Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field. With the win, BU captured the weekend series and moved into a tie for third place in the America East standings with six games remaining.
Roselli went 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI – just one off the school record. He belted a pair of 3-run home runs and added a ninth-inning sacrifice fly to boost his season RBI count to 51 (third in AE). Roselli hit his first bomb in the second inning to cap a six-run BU outburst. He then hit another 3-run shot in the fourth inning as the Bearcats raced out to a 9-2 lead. Roselli has registered six or more RBI three times this season.
The Bearcats led 10-3 before the teams traded a pair of runs in the closing innings.
Senior reliever
Kyle Eskildsen (W, 2-0) worked 3.2 innings to earn the win. He allowed just three hits and one run with five struckouts.
The Bearcats sent nine to the plate in the second inning and tallied six runs on just two hits. Freshman third baseman
Mike Stellrecht and junior center fielder
Tommy Reifler produced RBIs and a third run crossed on a wild pitch before Roselli connected on his first deep ball for a 6-0 lead.
The Great Danes got two runs back in the bottom of the frame, without the benefit of a hit.
But BU put it away with the three-spot in the fourth. Senior left fielder
Cavan Tully led off with a walk and Reifler singled. Roselli followed by depositing his second long ball over the wall in right field - his ninth of the season.
Reifler went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Tully also had two hits.
The Bearcats next head to Bryant for a three-game beginning Friday in Smithfield, R.I.
