Men’s Soccer Edged 2-1 at Colgate

Raiders score game-winning goal in the 65th minute

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Aidan Davock netted the game-winning goal in the 65th minute, leading Colgate (2-1-0)  to a 2-1 win over Binghamton (0-3-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game at the Beyer-Small '76 Field on Friday evening. The match marked the Bearcats' third consecutive match this season on the road.

With the score tied 1-1 in the 65th minute, Davock drove the ball down the field and managed to stay on his feet after an attempted block by a Bearcat defender. He then kicked the ball into the net from close range.

Binghamton started the match strong, getting a goal from graduate student midfielder Jack Green in the third minute. Junior back Carlo Cavalar was credited with the assist.

On the goal, Cavalar passed the ball to Green who blasted it from outside the box and into the net. Green has now had a role in both of Binghamton's goals this season. He was also credited with the assist on junior forward Mael Lopes' goal against William & Mary last Thursday.

With time running in the first half, Binghamton appeared to be in firm control of the match. With 15 seconds left, however, Colgate tied the game when a Binghamton defender inadvertently headed the ball into his own net.

With time running out in the match, the Bearcats valiantly tried to tie the score. Senior back Will Noecker fired a long shot in the 84th minute but it hit the post. In the final seconds, another Binghamton shot just went over the goal.

"We were unlucky tonight," head coach Paul Marco said. "We had great moments but we need some competitive desire for 90 minutes. We let ourselves down tonight. Colgate was a good, competitive team and we lacked the desire to compete during the entire match.

Binghamton and Colgate were deadlocked with nine shots each. Colgate, however, led in possession time by a 60-40 percentage margin and 4-2 in shots on goal.

In goal, graduate student Dylan McDermott made three saves.

The Bearcats host St. Bonaventure in their first home game of the season on Tuesday at 6:07 p.m.

NOTES: The last time Binghamton was on the road for its first three games was during the 2013 season.
