Men’s Soccer Defeated by Saint Peter’s 3-1

Peacocks break match open with three goals in 11 minutes

VESTAL, N.Y. — Tim Strele finished with two goals, leading St. Peter's (1-4-2) to a 3-1 victory over Binghamton (2-5-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Peacocks netted all of their goals in an 11-minute span midway through the match.

Strele scored the first goal of the game in the 39th minute. His initial shot was stopped by graduate student Binghamton goalkeeper Dylan McDermott but he got his own rebound and shot it into the net.

The second goal came with only 13 seconds left in the first half, when Mikkel Fodstad fired the ball into the net from the top of the penalty box. Pedro Alves was credited with the assist.

Five minutes into the second half, Strele scored his second goal of the game off a pass from Lex Vaughan.

Redshirt senior midfielder Anthony Lazaridis brought Binghamton back into the game in the 58th minute when he headed the ball into the net off a corner kick by graduate midfielder Jack Green. It marked Lazaridis' second goal and Green's third assist of the season.

Binghamton outshot St. Peter's 14-7 for the match, including a 10-3 margin in the second half.

"In a lot of regards, I'm unbelievably disappointed," head coach Paul Marco said. "I thought that we were really good in a lot of areas in the game but our defending individual duels were absolutely poor. I think that goes back to attitude and effort. I didn't think our discipline was very good today and it ended up costing us the result."

Binghamton hosts New Hampshire on Saturday at 6:07 p.m. for its conference opener.

NOTES: Green continues to lead the Bearcats in total points this season. He now has two goals and three assists for seven total points.
