Bearcats will compete in their first NEC Men’s Golf Championship in April

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton golf team has announced its spring schedule for the 2024 season. The Bearcats will compete in six tournaments over the course of two months, culminating in their first appearance in the NEC Championship.

"Our team is very excited for the spring and the competitions we have set up," said Binghamton Head Coach Bernie Herceg. "We have some new tournaments we'll be competing in and we're looking forward to returning to Penn State's event."

Binghamton will begin its second half of the season at Sacred Heart's Spring Break Invitational from March 8-9 at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach Fla. The last time the Bearcats competed at the event was in April of 2022, when the team finished second while D.J. Griffiths and Justin Lane each finished in the top five.

The next week, the Bearcats will compete in the Carpetbagger Classic at Worthington Manor Golf Club from March 16-17 in Urbana, Md. In March of 2023, Brandon Conner finished tied for 11th at 73+74=147/3-over par. It was the first top 20 finish of his collegiate career.

When the calendar turns to April, Binghamton will travel back to Florida to take part in the Southern Invitational from April 1-2 at the Falls Club in Palm Beach, Fla. The Bearcats will be one of 12 teams competing at the event, which will include three rounds over two days. Jacksonville University won the event in 2023.

Two stops in Pennsylvania follow that event. First for the Bearcats is the Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State's Blue Golf Course from April 13-14. The last time Binghamton competed at this event was in April of 2018. The team will then drive over to Glenside, Pa., to compete in the Villanova Invitational at LuLu Country Club from April 15-16. Conner also finished tied for 11th at that event in 2023 with a score of 74+69=143/1-over par.

To complete its first season in the NEC, Binghamton will compete at the NEC Men's Golf Championship at Callaway Resort & Gardens – Mountain Course in Pine Mountain, Ga. 54 holes will be played throughout three days. The top 10 finishers are named to the all-tournament team.

"We're very excited about being part of the NEC and competing in our first championship with them," said Herceg. "We feel the spring is set up well for our team to be prepared going into the NEC Conference Championship."

The Bearcats competed in five events during the fall of 2023. The highlight of that portion of the season came at their home event, the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational. The Bearcats finished tied for second as a team, while Conner finished tied for second on the individual leaderboard. He set the program record for lowest score relative to par through 36 holes at 67+70=137/7-under par. Tynan Jones also finished in a tie for 17th at 71+74=145/1-over par, his first collegiate top 20 finish.
