LANCASTER, Pa. – For the second straight tournament, Lou DePrez and Jacob Nolan left as champions as both wrestlers won their bracket at the David H. Lehman '68 Franklin & Marshall Open Friday at the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center.

This is the first time in the event's history that a wrestler from Binghamton has won a championship there. DePrez and Nolan previously both took first place at the Sheridan Tournament on Dec. 22. Picking up where they left off, Nolan won six matches while DePrez won five. DePrez, in particular, continued his dominant return to the mat by collecting two pins and two technical palls throughout the day. Nolan had three major decisions and a technical fall.

Both wrestlers would have to defeat a ranked opponent to take home the gold. No. 19 Nolan fought against No. 15 James Conway of host Franklin & Marshall. After the match remained scoreless throughout the first half, Nolan took the lead on an escape. After Conway tied the match 1-1 in the third period with an escape of his own, Nolan retook the lead with a takedown and held on for the 4-2 decision. No. 7 DePrez, meanwhile, cruised to a 17-2 technical fall over No. 17 Levi Hopkins of Campbell.

Additionally, both Carter Baer and Cory Day reached the semifinals in their brackets after each wrestler won their first four matches. After both lost in the semis, Day went on to upset No. 13 Grady Griess of Navy in a 5-3 decision to finish third at 285 lbs. Baer would finish fourth at 157 lbs.

Additionally, Brevin Cassella, Dimitri Gamkrelidze and Fin Nadeau each won five matches during the day. Each wrestler would finish in a tie for fifth place at 165, 174, and 157 lbs., respectively after reaching their match limit of six.

"I thought we had a good performance today as a team, capped by our championships from Jacob Nolan and Lou DePrez" said Binghamton Head Coach Kyle Borshoff. "We made some small mistakes that we need to clean up, but overall, we had a solid performance, and I am looking forward to our dual meet season."

Other Highlights

• Micah Roes also secured an upset for the Bearcats when he defeated No. 25 Brendan Ferretti of Navy 4-1 in sudden victory in the Round of 16 at 133 lbs.
• Day recorded a pin in each of his first three matches, bringing his team-leading total up to nine for the season.
• Gamkrelidze picked up his first two pins of the season against Princeton's Nate Stefanik in the Round of 32 and Drexel's Ethan Wilson in the Consolation Round of 16. He also nearly upset No. 21 Danny Wask of Navy in the Round of 16, taking him to sudden victory before losing in a 4-1 decision.
