Volleyball Stifles NJIT, 3-0

Bearcats record season-high 13 service aces in America East victory

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (13-9, 3-2) defeated America East opponent NJIT (5-18, 0-5), 3-0, Sunday afternoon inside the Events Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Bearcats and the Highlanders kept within three points of each other early in the first set. Tied at nine, Binghamton went on a 12-4 run to claim a 21-13 advantage. NJIT tacked on two more before the Bearcats scored three consecutive to win the frame 25-15. 

Binghamton and NJIT tied 10 times and traded the lead on five instances in the second set. At 14-14, the Bearcats registered seven of eight points to cement a 21-15 edge. Both opponents added four points each to give Binghamton a 25-19 set victory. 

The Bearcats and Highlanders remained within three points of each other in the first half of the third frame. Tied at 13, Binghamton scored eight consecutive points to lead 21-13. The Bearcats earned four of the next seven points to take the final set, 25-16. 

MATCH NOTES 
  • Binghamton recorded a season-high 13 service aces to lead NJIT 13-5 from the service line. The Bearcats have posted double digit service aces four times this season and led their opponents from the service line on 12 occasions. 
  • Misa Dlouha registered career-high five aces against the Highlanders while notching 11 kills with just one error at a .556. The performance was Dlouha's fifth double-digit kills performance of the year. She ranks third in the conference with a .311 attack percentage and fourth with 0.36 service aces per set. 
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva picked up her seventh double-double of the fall with 13 digs and 12 kills vs. NJIT. Ilieva has posted double-digit digs in eight matches and has hit double digit kills in all but three Bearcat contests this season.
  • Johanna Remy tallied a season-high eight kills at .467, the sixth time this fall she has hit .400 or better. The graduate student also chipped in a team-best three blocks in the victory.
  • Lottie Scully collected 37 assists vs. NJIT, her eleventh performance with 30 or more helpers this year.
