Men’s Soccer Loses 4-1 at Bryant

Bulldogs blow match open with three goals in 1:36

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Host Bryant (8-4-2, 3-2-0 AE) erupted for three goals in just 1:36, sparking a 4-1 win over Binghamton (8-6-2, 2-3-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at Beirne Stadium. With two matches left in the regular season, the Bearcats now sit in in sixth place in the conference standings. The top six finishers in the regular season qualify for the America East Tournament.

The Bearcats started off the match on a good note, taking a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Redshirt sophomore back Gaven Egan netted his third goal of the season with the assist being credited to senior back Carlo Cavalar.

Binghamton was able to protect that lead until the 25th minute when Oscar Sears deadlocked the match at 1-1. Just 1:02 later, Marc Pitarch Bayot made it 2-1 Bryant and only 34 seconds after that, Jose Alves Faria padded the lead to 3-1.

Play settled down over the next 14 minutes until Bryant netted a crucial goal in the 42nd minute. Sam White scored the goal, which gave Bryant a 4-1 lead going into the half.

After being outshot 17-5 in the first half, Binghamton held an 8-6 advantage during a scoreless second half. The Bulldogs, however, managed to protect their three-goal lead the rest of the match.

"We are gutted to have lost 4-1," head coach Paul Marco said. "We started off the match very well and played well again in the second half. But those moments in the first half made the difference – especially those two minutes where they scored three goals."

Final shots for the match favored Bryant by a 23-12 margin. The Bulldogs also held a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.

Graduate student goalkeeper Dylan McDermott finished the match with six saves.

Binghamton returns home to host UAlbany on Friday at 6:07 p.m. in its annual Senior Day match.
