Volleyball Prepares for UMBC, Bryant

Bearcats travel to UMBC Friday, host Bryant Sunday

BALTIMORE, Md. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (11-5, 1-0) continues America East play at UMBC (2-10, 1-0) Friday night and home vs. Bryant (14-4, 1-0) Sunday afternoon. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Sunday. 

Friday's match will be broadcast on America East TV while Sunday's contest will be live on ESPN+. Both can be followed via live stats here at binghamtonbearcats.com. 

Last time out, the Bearcats defeated Long Island, 3-1, Sept. 29, inside the Events Center. Binghamton registered three season-bests against LIU with 71 digs, 69 kills, 66 assists. Four players recorded double-digit kills and digs for the first time this season while three Bearcats also posted double-doubles. The Bearcats picked up their first America East victory over UAlbany, 3-0, Sept. 27 at home. 

Binghamton earned three out of four America East weekly awards Tuesday morning. Tsvetelina Ilieva nabbed her third straight Player of the Week distinction, the eighth of her career. The fifth-year senior averaged 6.2 kills per set at a .385 clip with 2.8 digs per set for Binghamton last week. Ilieva recorded a career-high 28 kills at .344 in 3-1 win over LIU Sunday, the most of any America East competitor in a match this season. 

Lottie Scully picked up her first Setter of the Week honor this fall and averaged 11.73 assists and 2.8 digs per set in three matches, the ninth of her career. The junior setter registered back-to-back season highs with 38 assists in the sweep over UAlbany and 56 against Long Island, also the most of any America East setter in a match this year. Viktoria Dimitrova collected her first Rookie of the Week nod for the Bearcats Tuesday morning. The freshman tallied 33 kills with just two errors at a .523 attack percentage across three matches. 

Ilieva leads the America East with 4.49 kills per set and 5.22 points per set. She ranks second nationally with 308 points and 265 kills. Misa Dlouha owns a conference-best 1.36 blocks per set to sit third in the country with 80 total blocks. 

As a team, Binghamton leads the America East with 17.30 points per set, 13.10 kills per set and a .264 attack percentage. The Bearcats also rank second in the league with 12.03 assists per set, 2.39 blocks per set and 1.81 service aces per set. 

UMBC leads the series with Binghamton 26-19 since 1997. The Retrievers have won the last three against the Bearcats, including the most recent 3-0 win in the 2023 America East Championship Final. 

Bryant owns a 7-4 series record against the Bearcats since 1997. The Bulldogs were victorious in the teams last contest, 3-2, in Rhode Island, Nov. 3, 2023. 

Next up, the Bearcats travel to Philadelphia, Wednesday, Oct. 9, to take on Temple. Match time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
