Men's basketball rolls over Misericordia 77-48

Walsh records third straight double-double; Callahan-Gold scores game-high 19 points

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's basketball stretched a 15-point halftime cushion and rolled past Misericordia 77-48 Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and kept the Bearcats unbeaten at home early in 2024-25.

Graduate forward Ben Callahan-Gold scored a game-high 19 points (11 in first half) and sophomore forward Gavin Walsh earned his third straight double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Chris Walker accumulated 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists and graduate guard Tymu Chenery added 12 points to give Binghamton four in double-digits.

Binghamton trailed 8-2 early after committing six turnovers in the game's first 3:20. But the Bearcats responded with an 18-2 run that spanned six minutes and they never looked back against their Division III opponents from across the Pennsylvania border.

"We're excited to get the win," associate head coach Brian Johnson said. "To play in front of our fans after being on the road was nice. We will acknowledge this win but know that we have to get back to work tomorrow. We have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball. I keep saying we are a work in progress ... but after the slow start, I'm happy these guys were able to flip the script today and keep their energy and enthusiasm up as the game went on."

Callahan-Gold drilled his third 3-pointer of the first half at the buzzer to give Binghamton a 40-25 bulge. The Bearcats shot 57 percent from the floor in the first period and converted 56 percent for the game. Binghamton's team defense limited the Cougars to just six field goals over the game's final 20 minutes.

Walsh, meanwhile, kept up his strong play. Four days after tying the school record with 19 rebounds at Fordham, Walsh pulled down 11 and in the process, became the first Bearcat in 12 years to register three straight double-doubles (Jordan Reed in 2012-13). The record is five straight double-doubles set by Mahamoud Jabbi in 2010-11. Walsh is averaging a double-double on the season with 10.2 ppg. and 10.0 rpg.

Binghamton hosts first-time opponent Longwood (Va.) Tuesday night.
