Women’s Basketball Wins 65-54 at LIU

Four Bearcat players reach double figures in scoring

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Visiting Binghamton (3-3) shot 47 percent and four players scored in double figures, highlighting its 65-54 win at LIU (1-6) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Friday evening at the Steinberg Wellness Center. The victory marked the Bearcats' first road triumph of the season.

Redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz led a balanced Bearcat attack with a game-high 15 points while junior guard Kaia Goode turned in an 11-point, seven-steal, four-assist, four-rebound, one-block performance. Sophomore guard Yanniah Boyd added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists while junior forward Camryn Fauria also netted 12 points.

Nursing a 26-23 lead with 2:07 left in the second period, Binghamton scored seven unanswered points to go up 33-23 at the break. Sophomore guard Leah Middleton, who finished with eight points and five rebounds, led the way with four points during that stretch.

The Bearcats then outscored the Sharks 20-12 in the third period to go up 53-36. Binghamton shot 6-for-14 from the field and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line during the period. Weltz had a team-best six points over that stretch while Goode and Fauria each added four points.

LIU stormed back to within 55-46 with 7:10 left in regulation on a three-point field goal by Kaiden Glenn. Over the next 70 seconds, however, Binghamton scored six straight points to go up 61-46 with 5:38 left to go. Goode hit a pair of clutch baskets during that spurt.

"Give a lot of credit to LIU," head coach Mary Grimes said. "In every game, they make their opponent play out of character. We were pretty lucky to come away with a win here because we did some things that we normally don't do. We got one day to fix it and we are back at it on Monday."

Binghamton went 24-of-51 from the field (47.1 percent) and was 16-of-20 from the free throw line. The Bearcats also finished with a 42-30 advantage in points in the paint and scored 23 of their points off of LIU turnovers.

Sirviva Legions led the Sharks with 13 points while Candela Garcia-Escribano added 11 points.

Sophomore guard Kaylee Krysztof chipped in seven points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the process.

Binghamton now heads to the other side of New York State on Monday for an 11 a.m. game at Canisius.

NOTES: Goode's seven steals ties her career high - which she set back in 2022 against Adelphi when she was still competing for Le Moyne. It also marks the highest total turned in by a Binghamton player so far this season.
