Women’s Basketball Hosts Akron

Bearcats and Zips Tip Off Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (1-0) defeated visiting Pitt-Johnstown 79-34 on Monday evening. Redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz finished with a game-high 17 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and four steals. Junior guard Kaia Goode added 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals. The victory marked the debut of new Binghamton head coach Mary Grimes.

- The Bearcats' game against Akron will be preceded by the Binghamton men's team's home opener against Oneonta. Tip off time is slated for 5 p.m. 

- Including Goode, Binghamton had three first-time starters in their lineup against Pitt-Johnstown. Sophomore guards Leah Middleton and Yanniah Boyd were the other two players. Weltz and junior forward Camryn Fauria, meanwhile, were the lone returning starters.

- Akron (1-0) rallied to defeat visiting Georgia State 81-73 on Monday evening. Kam'Ren Rhodes led four Zip players in double figures with a game-high 25 points. Maddie Vejsicky added 14 points while Alexus Mobley finished with 13 points. 

- Playing in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), Akron finished 11-18 (6-12 MAC) last season. The Zips have eight newcomers on this year's squad.

- Akron leads the all-time series against Binghamton 2-0. Most recently, the Zips won 80-49 at home back on Nov. 14, 2014. The first meeting - which Akron won 55-44 on Nov. 18, 2006 - took place at the Florida Atlantic Tip Off Tournament.
