Volleyball Ends Season with NIVC First Round Loss

Bearcats fall to hosts Bowling Green, 3-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (19-11, 8-2 AE) ended its 2024 campaign with after falling to Bowling Green (22-9, 16-2 MAC), 3-1, in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship first round Wednesday night inside the Stroh Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both the Bearcats and the Falcons stayed close to start off the first set, with neither team leading by more than four points. Up 19-17, Bowling Green registered a 6-1 run to claim the first set, 25-18. Despite the frame loss, Binghamton hit a match-best .412 in the first set. 

The Falcons continued their momentum in the second set, recording 10 straight points to begin the stanza. The Bearcats attempted to chip away at BGSU's defense, scoring three consecutive to come within two, 22-20. Binghamton tacked on one more Bowling Green closed out the frame, 25-21. 

The Bearcats came back to pick up an early 8-6 advantage in the third set. The Falcons used another 6-1 run to take back the lead next, 12-9. A kill and two service aces from Tsvetelina Ilieva tied the frame up at 15 before Bowling Green took back the edge for the final time, 16-15. Binghamton took 10 of the next 16 points to win the third set 25-21. 

BGSU took the final frame in commanding fashion, 25-15, holding the Bearcats to a .000 hitting percentage in the fourth set. 

MATCH NOTES 
  • Binghamton led Bowling Green in blocks 9-8, the 17th time the Bearcats have led their opponents at net this season. 
  • In her final appearance for Binghamton, Tsvetelina Ilieva led the Bearcats with 21 kills and ten digs for her 13th double-double of the season. The performance was her 12th this fall with 20 or more kills. 
  • Lottie Scully notched her sixth consecutive double-double with 38 assists and 11 digs against the Falcons, her tenth of the season. 
  • Ella Schabort notched a team-best 12 digs vs. BGSU, her ninth performance with double figure digs this campaign. 
  • Misa Dlouha chipped in a team-best five blocks along with nine kills at .400, her 16th match this season hitting .400 or better.
