Bearcats heads to Cornell and Boston this weekend

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton track & field teams begin their 2024-25 seasons this weekend with a pair of meets. The majority of both the Bearcat men's and women's squads head to the two-day Greg Page Relays at Cornell, which begins on Friday. A handful of distance runners, meanwhile, will take part in the Boston University Season Opener on Saturday.

Following the semester break, the Bearcats will resume their competition schedule at the Cornell/Upstate Challenge on Jan. 18. All total, there are 12 scheduled meets during the indoor season and 10 during the outdoor campaign.

This year's America East Indoor Championship meet returns to the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. The two-day meet runs Feb. 22-23. The conference outdoor meet will be hosted by New Hampshire May 3-4.

Last season, the Bearcat women's team was the runner up at both the America East indoor and outdoor championships. On the men's side, Binghamton was third at the conference indoor meet and sixth in the ensuing outdoor championships.

Within the men's team, the Bearcats return four defending conference champions. Redshirt sophomore Brian Luciano captured the men's indoor weight throw while graduate student Josh Stone swept the 5,000 at both conference meets. Sophomore Matthew Oluwole took top honors in the outdoor high jump while graduate student Marcus Johnson won the outdoor 400 hurdles. Luciano, Stone and Johnson all concluded their 2024-25 seasons at the NCAA East Region Outdoor Meet.

In addition, Binghamton returns all four members of the men's first-place indoor 4x400 relay team. They include Johnson, fellow graduate student Oliver Madariaga, senior Joe Cardascia and junior Samson Joseph.

For the Binghamton women, junior Alyssa Armitage broke the conference indoor meet record in the pole vault while senior Jennifer Mui won the outdoor 3,000 steeplechase (SC) crown. Senior Hillary Abankwa, meanwhile, was first in the indoor 500.
