Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Marist, 20-9

Carroll posts career-high nine points in victory

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (1-2, 0-0) earned its first victory of the season in dominant fashion over Marist (0-2, 0-0), 20-9, at the Bearcat Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. 

BU dominated the visitors at the net, taking more than twice as many shots as the Red Foxes and owning a 25-13 shots on goal advantage. 

Abigail Carroll highlighted action for the Bearcats, registering a career-high nine points on six goals and three assists. Olivia Muscolino and Madison Murphy tacked on their own hat-tricks with three goals apiece. Carla Curth and Hayley Welter got on the board for the first time this season with two goals each. 

Kristen Scheidel, Gabriella Meli, Mia Forte and Emma Blloshmi also found the back of the net for Binghamton. The goals were the first of their careers for Meli, Forte and Blloshmi. 

Sofia Salgado recorded six saves in her first win for BU in goal while Scheidel notched a team-best five ground balls. 

Curth posted three assists for six points as Weltner grabbed two against the Red Foxes. Carroll led the Bearcats in draw controls with seven, Weltner followed close behind with six. 

Keira Bauer and Cheyanne Carson-Banister also made their debuts for BU this afternoon.

Despite a Red Fox goal to open up scoring, Binghamton showed its dominance early on by netting three straight goals twice to lead 6-2 after the first quarter 

Marist responded with three consecutive goals to start the second quarter and cut the BU advantage to 6-5. The Bearcats came back next with an impressive eight unanswered goals across the second and third quarters to lead 14-5. 

The Red Foxes added one more with 9:50 remaining in the third quarter before Binghamton posted three straight goals once again to make it 17-6 in favor of the home team. 

Both teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter, recording three more scores apiece to finish regulation with a 20-9 win for BU. 

Next up, Binghamton travels to Hamilton, N.Y. for a midweek non-conference contest at Colgate, Wednesday, Feb. 21. Start time is slated for 5 p.m.
