Down 10-7 at halftime, Bearcats pull off the comeback win

HAMILTON, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (2-2, 0-0) outlasted Colgate (0-3, 0-0), 16-15, Wednesday night on Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium.

BU owned a 38-28 shots advantage over the Raiders and converted on 6-10 of its free position attempts compared to Colgate's 2-7.

Abigail Carroll recorded a team-best point total once again for the Bearcats with five on four goals and one assist. Hayley Weltner and Kristen Scheidel posted three goals apiece while Olivia Muscolino, Madison Murphy and Mia Forte scored two each.

Weltner led BU with a season-high 10 draw controls, followed by Carroll's four.

Sofia Salgado earned a career-high 11 saves in goal for Binghamton. Weltner and Scheidel tied for a team-best three ground balls in the victory.

The Bearcats struck first on a quick goal from Scheidel off an assist from Muscolino. The Raiders responded with three goals in the next minute to cement an early 3-1 lead.

Binghamton and Colgate traded scores for the remainder of the first quarter, BU grabbing three from Murphy, Scheidel and Carroll to end the frame 5-4 in the Raiders favor.

Colgate outscored BU once again in the second quarter, posting five goals to the Bearcats' three. Scheidel, Carroll and Weltner all found the back of the net for Binghamton in quarter two.

The Raiders opened up scoring in the second half to make the contest 11-7 before a goal from Forte cut the advantage to three. Colgate continued to add two more scores next, grabbing its largest lead of the contest at 13-8 with 7:20 remaining in the third.

BU went on to score an incredible seven unanswered goals across the third and fourth quarters to take back the lead 15-13 in favor of the visiting team.

The Raiders attempted their own comeback, notching two goals to the Bearcats' one in the last 13 minutes of play. With a ground ball pickup by Carroll, Binghamton slipped past Colgate for the 16-15 road win.
