Women’s Tennis Prepares for Weekend Matches

Binghamton set to travel to St. Bonaventure, host Marist

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's tennis team (1-6,1-3) is set to compete in two matches this weekend, at St. Bonaventure, Friday, and home against Marist, Sunday.  

Friday's match in Olean, N.Y. versus St. Bonaventure will begin at 1 p.m. while Sunday's contest against Marist will start at 1 p.m. inside the Lane-Starke Tennis Center. 

Last time out, the Bearcats earned their first win and conference victory of the season over Merrimack, 4-3, Sunday, Feb. 4. The win marks the first league victory for the Bearcats as new members of the Northeast Conference (NEC). 

After the Warriors claimed the doubles point early in the match, BU earned four singles wins from Caterina Casadei, Maria Pereira, Nitya Vyas and Samantha Jaros to give Binghamton the, 4-3 team win. Pereira's close, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 triumph at fourth singles sealed the team victory in favor of Binghamton. 

St. Bonaventure and Binghamton hold a 8-8 series tie with each other. The Bearcats last competed against the Bonnies, Feb. 24, 2023 and resulted in a 5-2 win for SBU. 

Marist owns a 6-2 all-time series lead over BU. The Bearcats saw the Red Foxes last fall at the Marist Invite, Oct. 13, 2023. With three doubles and four singles matches played, Marist recorded a 5-0 sweep over Binghamton. 

Next up, BU hosts Rider and Lehigh in back-to-back matches inside the Lane-Starke Tennis Center, Feb.17-18.
