BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Jessica McLean of Binghamton women's tennis made program history on Sunday by becoming the first player in program history to win the singles title at the NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships.

The three-day tournament at the Lane - Starke Tennis Center saw nine Northeast Conference schools compete for the opportunity to represent the conference at ITA Masters Championships in Athens, Georgia later this fall. 

McLean cruised through the first two rounds winning in straight sets to reach the semifinal round. She then won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 against FDU's Oleksandra Ovsiienko to move on to the tournament's final.

McLean would go head-to-head with the top seed of the tournament and last year's NEC Rookie of the Year, Sophia Fredericks-McKee. Mckee started strong and took the first 6-2 over McLean. From there, it was a back-and-forth battle between the top seeds of the tournament. However, McLean was able to overpower the top seed by winning the second and third sets 7-5, crowning the freshman the singles champion of the topflight. 

McLean will represent Binghamton and the NEC at the ITA Masters Championship Nov. 5-8 in Athens, Georgia.

Samantha Jaros captured a singles title in her flight after going the distance in her finals match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7(7). Adelie Wilson also claimed victory in singles play by winning in straight sets in the semi and finals rounds of her flight.
