Women’s Lacrosse Downed by Cornell, 15-7

Muscolino records third hat-trick of the season in loss

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (4-5) dropped a 15-7 contest to Cornell (5-1, 2-0), Tuesday afternoon at the Bearcat Sports Complex. 

Goalkeeper Sofia Salgado highlighted action for BU against the Big Red offense as she posted a career-high 12 saves in the loss.

Olivia Muscolino paced the Bearcats offense with five points (3G, 2A), her fifth hat trick of the season. Kristen Scheidel added two goals and a team-high five draw control wins. 

Madison Murphy tacked on two points (1G, 1A) while Carla Curth also found the back of the net once for Binghamton 

Gretel Cassell, Emma Blloshmi, and Gabriella Meli picked up two ground balls apiece for career high marks.

Cornell's offense got on the board quickly, netting two unanswered goals until Binghamton answered back with an unassisted goal by Muscolino to cut the Big Red's lead in half, 2-1. 

CU finished out the first quarter with three consecutive scores, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. The visiting team opened up the next frame with another goal before Scheidel registered her first of the contest to make it 6-2. 

The Big Red found the back of the net two more times before the end of the half, bringing their lead to 8-2. Cornell opened up the third quarter with another goal before Muscolino and Murphy went back-to-back to cut the advantage to five at 9-4. 

The visiting team outscored the Bearcats 3-1 in the remainder of the third period to bring the game to 13-5 heading into the final 15 minutes. 

Both teams netted two goals in the fourth quarter, the first two from the Big Red offense and the second two from Curth and Muscolino, to close out the game 15-7 in favor of Cornell. 

Next up, Binghamton will open America East play at UAlbany, Saturday, March 16. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
