Muscolino, Murphy, Scheidel each tally hat trick in America East opener

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Binghamton women's lacrosse team opened America East play on Saturday afternoon as they were on the road at the University of Albany and it turned out to be a back-and-forth affair that wasn't settled until the fourth quarter. UAlbany was able to come away with the 15-13 win on John Fallon Field and loss dropped Binghamton to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Neither team was able to make the most of their first possessions as the respective defenses held strong and it was UAlbany who tallied the first score of the game with Ava Poupard who netted her sixth of the season at the 12:51 mark. After a successful clear, the Bearcats were able to make the most of an opponent green card as Kristen Scheidel scored on the man up for her 39th goal of the season making it 1-1.

UAlbany would respond and make it 2-1, 8:50 into the first quarter with Megan Dineen finding the back of the net. Gabriella Meli had a chance to equalize but Grace Cincebox stood tall in the cage and made the save. The score remained the same going into the second quarter. The Great Danes tallied two more unanswered goals within the first five plus minutes of the period. Binghamton cut into the deficit making it 4-2 when Madison Murphy dished a pass that was finished off by Kristen Scheidel.

Binghamton's surge continued as this time Madison Murphy scored from the free position to tie it up with 3:37 left in the half. The Bearcats would tally two more unanswered goals to go up 6-4, but UAlbany seized the momentum going into the halftime break scoring two in the final 11 seconds of the quarter.

The third quarter started with the Great Danes still having all the momentum as they fired two early goals to go up 8-6 and force a BU timeout. UAlbany went up 9-6, but another Binghamton run was scored with a man-up goal netted by Olivia Muscolino. Momentum continued and after a ground ball from Angelina Suau and a clear, Emma Blloshmi ripped a shot past the opposing keeper making it 9-8 with under eight left in the quarter. UAlbany scored another this time coming with 31 seconds left that was scored by Allie Maloney.
