Women’s Lacrosse Earns 14-9 Comeback Win over UML

Bearcats put up nine unanswered goals to claim first conference victory

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (5-6, 1-1) picked up its first America East win of the season over UMass Lowell (8-2, 0-1), 14-9, at the Bearcat Sports Complex Saturday afternoon.

Down 7-3 in the second quarter, BU scored nine unanswered goals to earn the comeback victory over the River Hawks. The win snapped a four game skid for the team whose last win came at Campbell, March 3.

Binghamton commanded the game's overall offense, owning a 31-19 shots and 16-10 draw controls advantage.

Madison Murphy highlighted action for the Bearcats, earning five points on four goals and one assist. In her first career start, Emma Blloshmi added a career-best four goals and four draw controls to the team's tally.

Carla Curth registered four points with two goals and two assists while Kristen Scheidel found the back of the net twice for BU. Olivia Muscolino and Gabriella Meli also recorded goals in the victory, extending Muscolino's scoring streak to 29 straight games.

Hayley Weltner posted a one assist and team-best six draw controls as well, bringing her program-best career draw controls total to 213.

BU started off the afternoon on the right foot, opening play with goals from Blloshmi and Murphy. UMass Lowell came back with two of their own to level the game at 2-2 with 8:06 remaining in the first quarter.

Both teams traded scores again before the River Hawks netted five in a row to grab a 7-3 lead with 7:04 left in the second quarter. Blloshmi and Scheidel recorded two more goals for Binghamton before the end of the half to trail the visiting team 7-5.

The Bearcats came out of halftime hot, registering seven scores in the third quarter while holding UML scoreless. BU posted nine unanswered goals across the second and third frames to lead 12-7 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

UMass Lowell found the back of the net for the first time in almost 30 minutes with 8:54 left in regulation to cut the home team's lead to four at 12-8. Binghamton scored two more goals to UML's one in the final frame, sealing the 14-9 victory for the Bearcats.

Next up, BU travels to Vermont for another conference match-up against the Catamounts, Saturday, March 30. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
