Softball Loses AE Series Finale at Bryant 8-4

Bulldogs take weekend series two games to one

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Megan Marcel and Hannah Cochran each drove in two runs, powering Bryant (14-7, 2-1 AE) to an 8-4 win over Binghamton (15-10, 1-2 AE) in an America East softball game on Sunday afternoon at Conaty Field. With the victory, the Bulldogs capture the weekend conference series two games to one.

The Bearcats bounced back from an early 2-0 deficit to plate four runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore designated player Brianna Roberts deadlocked the game at 2-2 with a two-run double. One batter later, redshirt junior third baseman Shelby Carvalho singled home a pair of runs.

Bryant, however, stormed right back with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Marcel had an RBI single and Cochran doubled home another two runs during that frame.

The Bulldogs then added single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, padding the lead to 8-4. Marcel drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly.

The pitching tandem of Kylie Kenney and Brooke Tracey held the Bearcats to just four hits. They also struck out 10 batters to offset five walks issued. Kenney won for the second time in the weekend series to improve to 5-4. The loss was tagged to sophomore Olivia Kennedy, whose record dropped to 3-2.

Roberts finished the series against Bryant with a team-best four RBI while Carvalho went 3-for-8 over the three games (.375). Redshirt junior Brianna Santos, meanwhile, hit a team-best .400 during the weekend (4-for-10).

On the mound, Roberts finished the game on Sunday with a pair of scoreless innings. For the weekend, she finished 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in 9.0 innings pitched.

Binghamton heads to Le Moyne on Tuesday for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
