Softball Sweeps Maine 12-5 and 3-0

Bearcats finish off three-game sweep over Black Bears

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton (25-10, 7-2 AE) swept Maine (3-29, 1-12 AE) 12-5 and 3-0 in an America East softball doubleheader on Monday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the victories, the Bearcats also swept the three-game conference series against the Black Bears, having won 2-0 in the opener on Sunday.

Senior pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux fired a three-hit shutout and belted a two-run home run in the second game. During the doubleheader, she went 2-for-6 (.333) at the plate, reached base three times and scored three runs.

Offensively, redshirt junior designated player Lindsey Walter hit a team-best .667 on the day, going 4-for-6 at the plate and scoring twice. Sophomore outfielder Bella Farina, meanwhile, was 3-for-6 (.500) with a pair of RBI and scored three times.

L'Amoreaux went the full 7.0 innings in the second game, struck out 10 batters and allowed only four base runners to improve her record to 9-2. Her two-run homer came in the bottom of the third inning. Later during that same frame, freshman second baseman Maddy Dodig padded the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single.

Kaly Thomas of Maine pitched effectively in the second game, scattering three runs on seven hits. She held the Bearcats scoreless over the final three innings but her record fell to 1-7.

In the opener, it was a seven-run bottom of the third inning that proved decisive. Down 3-0, the Bearcats got two-run doubles by Dodig and redshirt junior Shelby Carvalho during that frame. Carvalho later scored on an RBI groundout by senior catcher Hailey Ehlers and redshirt junior shortstop Gabby Guerrero capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Binghamton got two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up 9-3. Junior outfielder Sarah Rende doubled home the first run and later scored on an RBI single by Farina.

After Maine scored twice in the top of the sixth inning, the Bearcats came right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Farina singled home the first run and the other two runs came off of Black Bear errors.

On the mound, sophomore pitcher Olivia Kennedy improved her record to 6-2 while Isabelle True dropped to 2-8 with the loss.

Walter finished the three-game series against Maine batting a team-best .556 (5-for-9). She scored three times. Farina finished .375 (3-fo-8) during the weekend.

Binghamton's pitching staff of L'Amoreaux, Kennedy, sophomore Brianna Roberts and freshman Delaney Glover compiled a 1.67 ERA and held Maine to a 1.82 batting average during the three-game series.

Binghamton travels to UMass Lowell on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader.
