VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men's lacrosse team's four-game winning streak came to an end Saturday after the Bearcats (6-6, 4-2 America East) were defeated by Bryant (8-4, 4-2 America East) 17-11 Saturday at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Liam Ferris and
Matthew Keegan each provided a hat trick for Binghamton, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats lost their first game since March 16. Aidan Goltz led the Bulldogs with six goals, while Kevin Groeninger added five.
The Bearcats pulled ahead 3-2 by the first media timeout thanks to goals by
Jack Mellen, Keegan and Ferris. Bryant, however, would pick up three unanswered goals from Dawson Rielly, Goltz and Timmy Hackett in the final 61 seconds to take a 5-3 lead into the second quarter.
From there, the Bearcats would spend the rest of the day trying to catch up to the Bulldogs. The teams would trade goals in the first 10 minutes of the second. Binghamton's goals during that span came from
Gage Adams and
Ethan Insinga, while Bryant's goals were courtesy of Goltz and Jack Lonsinger. The Bulldogs would then pick up two more tallies at the end of the half from Groeninger and Johnny Hackett to enter halftime up 9-5.
Binghamton would only get one goal in the third quarter, which was scored by Ferris at 5:07. Meanwhile, Goltz scored all four of Bryant's goals in the quarter to extend its lead to 13-6 entering the fourth. Ferris and Keegan would each secure their hat trick in the final quarter, with Keegan scoring twice in the period and Ferris once. Mellen and
Ross Chazanow would each also score a goal in the quarter, but Bryant would add another four goals that quarter to win the game.
