CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va./LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior
Josh Stone and redshirt freshman
Brian Luciano broke their own school records and Binghamton won four events, highlighting its performances at the Virginia Challenge and Bucknell Team Challenge this weekend. There was no team scoring at Virginia while at Bucknell, the Bearcat women finished second out of 10 teams while the men placed fourth.
Stone clocked a time of 28:54.10 in the 10,000 at Virginia on Friday evening. He placed fourth overall and in the process, eclipsed his previous school record of 29:21.27, which he set last month at the Raleigh Relays. Unofficially, Stone's time ranks No. 34 in the East Region.
Luciano, meanwhile, won the hammer at Bucknell on Saturday with a school-record distance of 209-2. It broke his previous school record of 208-1 which he set last weekend at the Bucknell Outdoor Challenge. Unofficially, Luciano's distance ranks No. 24 in the East Region. He has a pair of wins in that event so far this outdoor season.
Senior
Jenna Chan won the 100 hurdles at Bucknell on Saturday with a time of 13.69. It marks the fourth consecutive victory in as many races for Chan. Last week, she broke her own school record with a time of 13.66 at the Bucknell Outdoor Challenge.
The women's 4x100 relay earned their second win of the season with a first-place time of 46.30 at Bucknell on Saturday. That quartet included graduate students
Gabby Hyatt and
Sophia Morone, sophomore
Angie Mesa-Espinosa and freshman
Tatum Norris. Their time is the second-fastest performance in Binghamton program history.
The other Binghamton winner at Bucknell was graduate student
Mark Scanlon in the men's 800 (1:55.01).
Mesa-Espinosa also was second in the 100 (11.85) while Norris was third in both the 100 (11.88) and pole vault (11;5 ¾). Other runner-up finishes on the women's side at Bucknell were turned in by senior
Gianna Hoose in the hammer (167-8) and fellow senior
Penelope Paldino in the 400 hurdles (1:05.09).
Second-place performances on the men's side – all at Bucknell - were recorded by senior
Adrian Rippstein in the 110 hurdles (14.84), fellow senior
Oliver Madariaga in the 400 (48.57) and sophomore
Samson Joseph in the 100 (10.64).
Binghamton will take part in three meets next weekend. Penn Relays will be held Thursday-Saturday, the East Coast Relays run from Friday-Saturday at North Florida while the Big Red Invitational will be held at Cornell next Sunday.
