ALBANY, N.Y. – Wendi Hammond fired a two-hit shutout, leading UAlbany (21-11, 9-5) to a 9-0 win over Binghamton (28-12, 10-4 AE) in an America East softball game on Sunday afternoon at the Albany Field. With the victory, the Great Danes win the weekend series against the Bearcats two games to one – with the two squads having split Saturday's doubleheader.
The Great Danes needed only five innings to finish off the game. They started quickly with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to go up 4-0. After adding a single run in the second inning, UAlbany plated three more runs in the third inning and a final run one inning later.
Morgan Petty and Victoria Vilarchao each had two RBI. Vilachao capped the first inning with a two-run homer while Petty's two-run double was the key hit in the third inning.
Hammond is now 16-7 this season while senior pitcher
Allison L'Amoreaux dropped to 10-3 with the loss.
Binghamton returns home to face Colgate on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
