LEXINGTON, Kent. – Seniors Marcus Johnson and Josh Stone as well as redshirt freshman Brian Luciano took part the NCAA East Region Track & Field Meet on Wednesday. The four-day event is being held at the University of Kentucky Track & Field Complex and runs through Saturday.

Johnson was 25th overall in the men's 400 hurdles with a time of 51.76. In the process, he held his ranking coming into the meet. Running in the last of six sections during Wednesday's preliminary round, he placed fifth in his heat. The top three finishers in each heat plus the next six fastest times advanced to Friday's final round.

Chris Robinson of Alabama won Johnson's heat with a time of 49.85. That time was also the fastest overall performance of the preliminary round.

Luciano was 29th overall in the men's hammer with a distance of 200-11. He too held his ranking coming into the meet.

The top overall distance in the men's hammer was 227-8, which was turned in by Aimar Palma Simo of Duke. The top 12 overall finishers in that event advanced to the NCAA Championships in two weeks (which will be hosted by the University of Oregon). The 12th and final qualifier in the hammer was Joshua Boamah of Navy, whose distance was 212-1.

Luciano is the first Binghamton freshman to advance to the NCAA East Region Meet since Jesse Garn competed in the 800 back in 2012.

Stone, meanwhile, was 41st overall in the men's 10,000 with a time of 31:02.32. He came into the meet ranked No. 37.

The top 12 overall finishers in the 10,000 advanced to the NCAA Championships. Victor Kiprop of Alabama clocked the top overall time of 29:06.56. The 12th-best time was turned in by Jack Jennings of Tulane (29:23.94).

Johnson, Luciano and Stone all concluded outstanding seasons at the NCAA East Region Meet. In addition to breaking the Binghamton program record in their events, each of them won at least one America East title during the 2023-24 academic year. All three of them will return to Binghamton this coming fall.

The three Binghamton men's qualifiers for the NCAA East Region meet represents the program's highest total since it also landed three selections in 2016.
