VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton baseball second baseman
Nick Roselli has been selected by the New York Mets in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft. Roselli was taken in the 11th round Tuesday afternoon and will report to the organization to begin his professional career. He is the first Binghamton second baseman to ever be drafted and is the school's highest position player taken in 34 years.
Roselli hit .349 in three seasons with the Bearcats, including a sizzling .388 mark this spring. In his three-year Binghamton career, Roselli accumulated 153 hits and 104 RBI in 115 starts. Nearly 40 percent of those hits were for extra-bases, including 26 home runs. He elevated his offensive numbers every year, and ranks among Binghamton's all-time top-10 in average (3
rd), home runs (4
th), on-base percentage (2
nd, .442) and slugging (2
nd, .608).
In his junior season this spring, Roselli shook off an early-season injury and earned America East all-conference accolades after hitting .391 in conference play. His on-base percentage hovered near .500 and half of his hits were for extra-bases.
Known for his clutch hitting, Roselli excelled in the postseason, batting .378 in 11 tournament games. He went 6-for-8 with two home runs and three RBI at the 2022 NCAA Stanford Regional. In 2024, he celebrated his return to the lineup after seven weeks with a two-run home run in his first at-bat. Roselli hit .500 (20-for-40) over his final 10 collegiate games.
"I'm very proud of Nick and so happy for him and his family," head coach
Tim Sinicki said. "An opportunity to play professional baseball has driven Nick from day one on campus and he's worked extremely hard to accomplish that goal. I believe the Mets have made a great pick in Nick and I wish him nothing but the best as chases his dream of one day playing in the major leagues."
Roselli becomes Binghamton's 16
th MLB pick and first since pitching ace Ben Anderson was taken by Texas in the 13
th round of the 2019 Draft. Anderson is currently pitching for the Rangers' Double-A team, the Frisco RoughRiders in Frisco, Texas, where he is 4-5 with a 4.35 ERA. Roselli is also the first Bearcat player selected since the MLB Draft was reduced to 20 rounds (from 40) in 2021.
