Women's soccer blanked at Canisius

Bearcats see season record evened at 1-1 after 5-0 road loss

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Host Canisius (1-0) scored three goals in the game's first 14 minutes and defeated Binghamton women's soccer (1-1) 5-0 Thursday afternoon at Demske Sports Complex.

Four days after building an early 3-0 lead themselves in a season-opening win at GW, Binghamton suffered a slow start and it cost them in the middle game of three straight road games to start 2024. It's just the second time in nine meetings that Canisius has beaten the Bearcats, who entered the game with a 5-1-2 head-to-head advantage.

The MAAC-member Griffs got on the board just 4:34 into the contest and added goals in the ninth and 14th minutes to build a 3-0 halftime cushion.

In the second half, Canisius was awarded a penalty kick just 2:33 into the period and made it 4-0 with the conversion. The hosts added a final goal in the 64th minute.

The Bearcats were outshot 17-5.

Binghamton returns to Western New York on Sunday to face St. Bonaventure in Olean.
