VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior back
Charlie Kaldor netted the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute, lifting Binghamton (2-0-0) to a 1-0 win over Le Moyne (1-1-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the victory, the Bearcats are off to their first 2-0-0 start since the 2021 season.
It is the second game in a row that the Bearcats have scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. Junior back
Luke Yates previously scored the go-ahead goal for the Bearcats in their 1-0 victory at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday.
"I'm really proud of how the guys execute, late in the game especially," said Binghamton Head Coach
Paul Marco. "And what a terrific goal by Charlie."
Binghamton outshot Le Moyne on goal in the first half 2-0. Graduate midfielder
Tom Cohen had the biggest opportunity for the Bearcats in the 10th minute with a shot near the outer end of the box, but was denied by Le Moyne goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell.
Both teams continued to battle in the second half, with the score remaining tied at zero with less than 10 minutes remaining. Then, sophomore
Marcus Nahim received the ball at the near corner of the Bearcats' offensive zone. After entering the box, he then sent a pass that deflected out to Kaldor. The senior then shot the ball into the lower-left corner of the goal for what proved to be the only tally of the game.
"When it's that late, it feels that much better," said Kaldor. "But all we want is the win. It can come 3-0, 1-0, that's what we come to get and we got it today."
Binghamton's defense then locked down the Le Moyne attack for the final minutes of the game, helping graduate goalkeeper
Dylan McDermott earn his second solo shutout in as many games and fourth of his Binghamton career.
Binghamton hosts William & Mary on Wednesday at 6:07 p.m.
NOTES: The last time the Bearcats opened the season with back-to-back shutout wins was in 2007, when they won their first five contests by identical 1-0 scores en route to taking home their second-consecutive America East Regular Season Championship.
