Men’s Soccer Defeated by William & Mary 3-0

Tribe nets all three goals in the first half

Box Score VESTAL, N.Y. – Lucas Caldas scored a pair of goals, powering William & Mary (1-0-0) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (2-1-0)  in a non-conference men's soccer game on Wednesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The match marked the second of two straight home contests for the Bearcats.

Caldas, who was a preseason all-conference selection by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), netted both of his goals in the opening 31 minutes of play. On the first goal, he finished off a cross in front of the net in the seventh minute. Evan Rabush and Sam Delgado were credited with the assists. In the 31st minute, Caldas took a pass from Augie Cooper and scored from close range.

The Tribe added an unassisted goal in the 41st minute by Tre Barrett. He dribbled the ball through traffic and fired the ball into the net from 10 yards away.

The Bearcats held the Tribe scoreless in the second half and the total shots for the match evened out at 9-9. The shots on goal also finished deadlocked at 4-4. William & Mary goalkeeper Cole McNally, however, made four saves to record the shutout.

"I thought we started the game well today," head coach Paul Marco said. "I thought we were in control of the game early. Our tempo was good and our positioning was good. If we look at the opportunities for the game - we didn't capitalize on our opportunities and they did. We are disappointed with the loss and we (now) need to come out to training and get better for the next game."

Binghamton heads to Hofstra on Monday for a 7 p.m. match. The Pride is currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Top 25 National Poll.
