Volleyball Begins Three-Match Roadtrip Wednesday

Binghamton to face Hofstra, Rutgers and VCU this week

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (BinghamtonBearcats.com) - The Binghamton Volleyball (4-3) team hits the road for three matchups this week starting at Hofstra, 6pm, Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Bearcats will then compete at the Rutgers Invitational against Rutgers, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m., and, VCU, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. 

Binghamton's match against Hofstra will be streamed on FloSports while the contest vs. Rutgers will be live on Big Ten+, the game against VCU will not be broadcast. All three can be followed via live stats here at BinghamtonBearcats.com. 

The Bearcats claimed the Fairfield Invitational title last weekend with wins against Central Connecticut State, 3-0, Fairfield, 3-1, and Boston College, 3-2. The victory over BC marked Binghamton's first win over a Power Four team since they beat Syracuse, 3-2, Sept. 19, 2012. Tsvetelina Ilieva was named the invitational's MVP while Misa Dlouha and Ella Schabort were named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Dlouha took home America East Defensive Specialist of the Week honors Tuesday morning. The sophomore registered 31 blocks on 29 block assists and two block solos to help Binghamton go 3-1 last week. Dlouha posted a league-best 1.82 blocks per set and chipped in ten digs.

The middle blocker recorded double-digit blocks twice with 10 rejections against Villanova and Boston College. On the offensive side of the ball, Dlouha tallied 32 kills at an impressive .508 attack percentage with seven aces and four assists. 

Binghamton stands 2-2 all-time against Hofstra, with the Pride winning the last contest 3-0 on Long Island, Sept. 15, 2017. The Bearcats lead the series with Rutgers 3-0 and won the last meeting, 3-1, on Scarlet Knight turf, Sept. 9, 2011. Binghamton is also tied all-time with VCU, 1-1, the Rams took the previous matchup, 3-2, on neutral ground, Sept. 13, 2008. 

Next, the Bearcats head up Route 96 to take on Cornell, Wednesday, Sept. 18. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
