Bearcats look to extend six-match win streak

ITHACA, N.Y. (BinghamtonBearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (7-3) travels up Route 96 for a midweek matchup with Cornell (4-2), Wednesday, Sept. 18, inside Newman Arena at Bartels Hall. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.

The Bearcats look to extend their six-match win streak against the Big Red tomorrow night. Last week, Binghamton took home three road wins over Hofstra, Rutgers and VCU. The Bearcats 3-0 sweep of Rutgers marked the program's first ever win over a Big Ten opponent.

Tsvetelina Ilieva picked up her first America East Player of the Week honor Tuesday morning, the sixth of her career. The fifth-year outside hitter averaged 4.8 kills and 1.5 digs per set while hitting .389 for Binghamton. Ilieva recorded double-digit kills in all three victories, including a season-high 20 in the 3-1 win over Hofstra, Sept. 11. In addition to her offensive output, Ilieva chipped in 15 digs, eight blocks, five service aces and two assists across three matches.

As a team, Binghamton leads the America East with 16.74 points per set, a .248 attack percentage and 1.69 opponent blocks per set. Ilieva owns the league's top spot with 3.69 kills per set and 4.40 points per set while Misa Dlouha leads the conference with 1.61 blocks per set.

Dlouha ranks first in the nation with 58 total blocks, tied with Idaho State's Marci Bell and Western Kentucky's Izzy Van De Wiele. Her 1.61 blocks per set total is fifth nationally. Ilieva's 158.5 point total ranks 33rd in the country.

Cornell owns a 8-5 series lead over Binghamton and has taken the last three contests between the familiar foes. The Big Red won the team's previous matchup, 3-1, Sept. 8, 2017, at home. The Bearcats are 11-19 all-time against Ivy League opponents and dropped their last competition to Brown, 3-2, Sept. 16, 2023, at UConn's Dog Pound Challenge.

Next up, Binghamton concludes invitational play in the Bronx, N.Y., at the Rose Hill Classic with matches against host Fordham, Friday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. and West Virginia, Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m.
