Volleyball to Host Pair of Matches This Weekend

Binghamton opens America East competition against UAlbany Friday night

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (9-5) returns home to host UAlbany (4-8), Friday, Sept. 27, and Long Island (2-11), Sunday, Sept. 29, inside the Events Center. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Sunday. 

Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be followed via live stats here at binghamtonbearcats.com. 

Last time out, the Bearcats took down Le Moyne on the road, 3-1, Tuesday, Sept. 24. Binghamton held Le Moyne to just a .055 attack percentage across four sets, its lowest opponent hitting rate this season. Tsvetelina Ilieva, Ella Schabort and Viktoria Dimitrova all recorded double-digit kills for the second straight match in the victory. 

Reigning America East Player of the Week Ilieva posted 20+ kills in consecutive matches for the fourth time in her collegiate career after posting 24 against Le Moyne and 27 vs. West Virginia last Saturday. The performance is her 11th straight match with double digit kills and seventh time hitting .300 or better this campaign. Ilieva leads the America East with 4.25 kills per set and 4.98 points per set. With 233 total points and 197 total kills, she ranks second and fourth in the country, respectively, in those categories. 

Misa Dlouha notched a Bearcat-best six blocks over Le Moyne to continue her dominance in the America East with a conference-best 1.46 blocks per set. Dlouha ranks second nationally with 76 total blocks. 

As a team, Binghamton leads the America East with 17.03 points per set and a .250 attack percentage. The Bearcats also rank second in the league with 12.67 kills per set, 11.53 assists per set, 2.50 blocks per set and 1.86 service aces per set. 

UAlbany leads the series with Binghamton 32-18 since 1997. The Bearcats have won the last three against the Great Danes, including the most recent 3-1 victory in Vestal, Oct. 27, 2023.  

Binghamton won its sole matchup with LIU, 3-1, Oct. 10, 2023, in Sharks territory. 

Next up, the Bearcats continue America East play at UMBC, Friday, Oct. 4. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
