Volleyball Bests Long Island, 3-1

Ilieva, Dlouha, Schabort post career high numbers to give Bearcats second win of the weekend

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Volleyball (11-5, 1-0) picked up its second win of Homecoming Weekend over Long Island (2-12, 0-0), Sunday afternoon, inside the Events Center. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Binghamton started Sunday off strong, hitting at a match-high .485 clip to earn a 25-11 victory in the first set. The Bearcats held the Sharks to just seven kills at a .081 clip in the first frame. 

LIU bounced back to take the second set 25-21. Despite the stanza loss, Binghamton outhit Long Island .314-.250 and posted five more kills than the Sharks in the stanza. 

Binghamton established an early 10-4 lead in the third that LIU did not regain in lieu to a 25-16 set victory. Seven of Tsvetelina Ilieva's career-high 28 kills came at a .500 clip in the third frame. 

The Bearcats finished off the Sharks in a competitive, 27-25, final set that featured 10 tie scores and six lead changes. Both opponents traded points until Binghamton forced match point 24-21. LIU went on a 4-0 run to force its own set point, 25-24. Kills from Misa Dlouha and Ilieva finished out the set with three straight Bearcat scores, 27-25. 

MATCH NOTES 
  • Binghamton registered three season-bests against LIU with 71 digs, 69 kills, 66 assists this afternoon. Four players recorded double-digit kills and digs for the first time this season in the victory while three Bearcats also posted double-digits in both categories. 
  • Ilieva notched a career-high 28 kills at a .344 clip over the Sharks. The performance was her fourth this season with 20+ kills after she matched her previous best of 27 vs. West Virginia, Sept. 21. It was also the ninth time she hit .300 or better in a match this year. 
  • Schabort led the Bearcats with a career-best 17 digs in the victory, along with 11 kills at .250, for her third double-double of the fall. The match is her 11 straight with double-digit kills. 
  • Scully tallied a season-high assists total for the second consecutive match with 56 against Long Island, her first 50+ assists performance of the season. The junior setter added a season-best 13 digs for her second double-double of the year. 
  • Misa Dlouha earned a career-high 13 kills vs. LIU at a .478 clip, the second double-digit match for Dlouha this fall and just the seventh career for the reigning America East Rookie of the Year. 
  • Viktoria Dimitrova matched her season best with 14 kills tonight and her third straight match hitting .400 or better. 
  • Emily Cronkhite collected 16 digs in the win, her sixth consecutive contest in double-digits. The junior libero held the Sharks to a .186 attack percentage across four sets added to the Bearcats 71-51 match lead in digs.
