Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | John Hartrick (hartrick@binghamton.edu)

Women's soccer defeated by New Hampshire 1-0

Bearcats surrender deciding goal in 27th minute

VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting New Hampshire scored the game's lone goal in the 27th minute and the Wildcats (7-2-1, 2-0 America East) held off Binghamton women's soccer (3-5-2, 0-2 AE) 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game brought to a close Homecoming Weekend festivities on campus.

Down two starting central midfielders, Binghamton had the edge in possession but couldn't break through the UNH back line.

"It was an unfortunate day," head coach Neel Bhattacharjee said. "I thought the effort was excellent ... certain things in our game plan that we want to execute came off very well ... we just needed to be a little sharper in the final third to create that last finishing chance. I thought in a lot of ways it was a very even game but one more bounce went to our opponent. We know if we play with that kind of quality and effort, some good things are going to happen as we move through conference play."

New Hampshire was the recipient of a fortuitous goal midway through the first half. A Bearcats' clearing attempt inside the box banked off a UNH player and into the net.

Binghamton's best opportunity came with 26 minutes left in the game. Freshman forward Jahkaya Davis pushed a thru ball into the box, where classmate Alexus Worrell collected it in dangerous position. But a slide tackle from a UNH defender ended the threat.

After facing their top two conference foes to open league play, the Bearcats next play at UMBC on Thursday.
