Three new Bearcats join roster this fall

VESTAL, N.Y. (BinghamtonBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's tennis team are set to add three new Bearcats to the 2024-25 roster, announced Head Coach Paul Caceres, Tuesday morning.

Freshmen Clara Arbeloa Lopez, Kayla Castellano, and Julia Pedraza Palacios join the team this fall after losing long-time Bearcats Lara Kaplan and Abby Ackroyd to graduation.

"All three newcomers appreciate the incredible opportunity to play Division I tennis at an excellent academic institution here at Binghamton University," said Caceres. "Kayla, Clara, and Julia are all very motivated, not afraid to take on challenges, willing to learn new things, and dedicated to improving.  I am looking forward to helping them grow as players and excited for what they can accomplish on and off the courts."

Arbeloa Lopez comes to campus from Valencia, Spain where she attended Cambridge House British International School. A 2022 Master District Championship Valencia U16 Champion, Arbeloa López is ranked 61st in Spain among U18 competitors. The incoming freshmen was both a Provincial Championship Castellón and a National Open "Arturo Torregrosa" women's finalist in 2023.

Castellano travels north from Garden City, N.Y. to join the Bearcat squad this fall. A four-year letterwinner out of Garden City High School, Castellano claimed the 2024 Nassau County doubles title as a senior. Her doubles team then finished third at the 2024 New York State Championships. Castellano also picked up 2020 All-County honors as a freshman.

Pedraza Palacios attended Colegio Bilingüe Tierrallana in Spain for three years before studying her final year as an exchange student at North Surry High School in Mount Airy, N.C. As a senior, she achieved a 21-2 record in singles play and advanced to the North Carolina State Semifinals after earning Regional and Conference Championships. A nine-time Provincial Championship Women's Finalist in Spain, Pedraza Palacios won multiple Provincial Doubles Championships. With her team, the 5'3" freshman was also a Regional Team Championship Winner and was a Doubles Cup Finalist.

Binghamton begins its fall slate this Friday, Sept. 6, at Navy's Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational. Match time is slated for 9 a.m. and competition will last through, Sunday, Sept. 8
