Bearcats to play one match Friday and two Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (BinghamtonBearcats.com) - The Binghamton University volleyball team (1-3) will travel to Connecticut, Friday, to compete in the Fairfield Invitational, Sept. 6-7. Matches will be held inside Leo D. Mahoney Arena.

The Bearcats will open the weekend against Central Connecticut State (0-2), Friday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. followed by two matches, Saturday, vs. Fairfield (1-2) at 1:30 p.m., and Boston College (3-0) at 6 p.m. All three contests will be broadcasted on Stags Sports Network and can be followed via live stats.

In their midweek matchup at Villanova (1-2), Binghamton fought back to tie the score 2-2 after dropping the first two sets. The Bearcats posted a team-high .400 attack percentage and recorded 14 kills in the third set to swing the momentum in their favor. Lydia Adam's four kills and Emily Cronkhite's six digs led the third frame for the Bearcats.

After out-blocking Villanova, 6-0, in the fourth set, Binghamton forced a deciding fifth frame against the Wildcats. Villanova used a 6-1 run to take control of the match late in the fifth set. Binghamton managed to save two match points on kills from Tsvetelina Ilieva and Viktoria Dimitrova but were defeated, 15-10, in the final frame.

Binghamton has an all-time record of 3-4 against Central Connecticut State. The Bearcats look to replicate their last two matchups against CCSU which both ended in three set sweeps on Sept. 2, 2022 and Sept. 17, 2016. The Bearcats played Fairfield once on Sept. 10, 2004 which resulted in a three-set loss in Vestal. Binghamton has one win in four matchups against Boston College. Their last matchup ended in a 3-0 loss for the Bearcats, Aug. 27, 2022, at that year's Bearcat Classic.

Next up, Binghamton will travel to Hempstead, N.Y. where they will play Hofstra in a mid-week contest, Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m.
