Men’s Soccer Gains 1-1 Tie Against Colgate

Cohen deadlocks the match in the 75th minute

VESTAL, N.Y. – Graduate student forward Tom Cohen scored the game-tying goal in the 75th minute as Binghamton (2-2-1) played to a 1-1 draw against Colgate (2-2-1) in a non-conference men's soccer match at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The match marked the Bearcats' third home match of the season.

Cohen's goal came just one minute after the Raiders broke a scoreless tie. Alex St. John's scored from close range off an assist from Cason Stafford. It was his second goal of the season.

The Bearcats came right back, however, and Cohen's goal was his first of the year. His shot, which was set up by redshirt sophomore back Gaven Egan, deflected off a Raider defender and went into the net.

From there graduate student goalkeeper Dylan McDermott and Colgate keeper Oliver Townsend each made a save from close range to keep the match even. Binghamton was able to preserve the tie despite being down a player - due to a red card - for the final six minutes of the night.

"I thought overall it was a good performance and that our guys were pretty competitive tonight," head coach Paul Marco said. "We showed good poise and Dylan was outstanding in goal for us. We just need a little better execution going forward."

The shots were 9-8 Binghamton but the shots on goal favored Colgate by a 6-4 margin. McDermott made a season-best five saves while Townsend finished the match with three saves.

Binghamton travels to Lafayette on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
