Volleyball Sweeps Central Connecticut State, 3-0

Tsvetelina Ilieva led the way for the Bearcats with 16 kills and no errors

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (BinghamtonBearcats.com) - The Binghamton Volleyball team (2-3) swept Central Connecticut, 3-0, Friday afternoon at the Fairfield Invitational inside Leo D. Mahoney Arena. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Bearcats dominated the match from the get-go, going up 8-1 early in the first set. Binghamton used a 8-2 run to increase their advantage, 22-8, before closing out the first set, 25-12. The Bearcats earned twice as many kills as CCSU, 14-7, in the first frame.

Binghamton kept its momentum, hitting a match-high .531 in the second set. The Bearcats went up by eight early on, 14-6, before the Blue Devils gained traction and came within one, 20-19. Binghamton recorded five more points to CCSU's two to claim the set victory, 25-21. The Bearcats registered 18 kills with just one error in the second stanza, along with 10 digs, to push past the Blue Devils, 25-21. 

Binghamton held Central Connecticut State to just eight points in the final frame, taking the stanza by a 17-point margin. The Bearcats hit .500 in the third set while the team's defense held the Blue Devils to a -.087 clip and picked up 14 digs.

MATCH NOTES 
  • Binghamton recorded a .466 team attack percentage against CCSU, the team's highest since the Bearcats hit .474 against NJIT last season, Oct. 29, 2023. 
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva led the Bearcats with 16 kills and no attack errors this afternoon. Her .640 attack percentage against the Blue Devils is a single-match career high for the fifth year outside hitter.
  • The perfect performance is the fifth of Ilieva's career and third with double-digit kills after she put up 20 vs UMBC, Oct. 7, 2022 and 13 vs. NJIT, Oct. 30, 2022, with no attack errors.
  • Emily Cronkhite earned a match-high five service aces in just her fifth appearance as a Bearcat, two more than entire Central Connecticut State team  
  • Misa Dlouha posted a a team-best six blocks over the Blue Devils while chipping in seven kills at a .429 hitting percentage
  • Setters Lottie Scully and Danit Cohen chipped in 19 and 17 assists, respectively, for a team, season-high 44 helpers 
  • Ella Schabort registered nine kills at a .471 clip against CCSU, along with a team-high six digs 

UP NEXT 
Binghamton will close out the Fairfield Invitational tomorrow with matches against Fairfield at 1:30 p.m. and Boston College at 6 p.m. Both contests will be streamed on Stags Sports Network and can be followed via live stats.
