Women's soccer blanks Wagner 4-0

Bearcats pump in three second-half goals, notch first shutout of season

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (2-3-2) stretched a 1-0 halftime lead with three second-half goals and rolled past visiting Wagner (1-3-3) 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Bearcats Sports Complex.

Senior forward Hannah Mimas recorded a goal and three assists and freshman midfielder Anna Buckwalter added a goal and an assist as the Bearcats registered their highest goal output of the season.

"We feel really good about the overall performance," head coach Neel Bhattacharjee said. "When we play with a little more control and belief in terms of what we can do and buying into our game plan, you saw the quality we can have in the second half. We are still a team that I think is a little away from putting it all together for a full 90 minutes. We scored four good goals and four very different goals from four goal scorers. So that shows how we can do things in different ways and that becomes tough for teams to defend."

Mimas got Binghamton going in the fifth minute after a Seahawks defensive miscue in the shadow of their goal line. Junior forward Lauren Clark had the initial pressure near the goal and had her shot blocked by the keeper. A Wagner defender collected the loose ball and tried to clear it away from danger but Mimas darted in and blocked the kick directly into the goal for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

In the second half, Binghamton scored twice in a 2:22 span to put the game away. In the 66th minute, Mimas sent a ball in from the right and senior forward Mackenzie Ryder chested it down and then struck a precise volley into the lower left corner for a 2-0 lead. It was Ryder's first collegiate goal.

In the 68th minute, Mimas sent a dangerous endline ball into the six-yard box, where Buckwalter headed it off the crossbar. The rebound caromed to freshman forward Jahkaya Davis, who headed it in from close range for her first collegiate goal and a 3-0 lead.

Buckwalter finished the scoring in the 83rd minute. Davis did some nice work on the right before passing to Mimas, who slotted it across to Buckwalter. The freshman took a dribble and unleashed a left-footer from 20 yards that found the far right corner. It was her third goal of the season.

The Bearcats have one more non-conference game remaining (Sunday at Le Moyne) before beginning defense of their back-to-back America East regular season titles.
