Bearcats look to improve to 3-0 in dual meets against EIWA opponents

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team has a quick turnaround, as the Bearcats welcome No. 19 Lehigh to the Events Center on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. All of Binghamton's home wrestling matches this season include free admission on behalf of JKS Home Improvement.

This dual will come two days after Binghamton defeated Hofstra 31-6 on Thursday in its home opener. Carter Baer secured a ranked win by defeating No. 27 Kyle Mosher 5-2, while Cory Day picked up his team-leading eighth pin of the season against Danny Church. Both Brevin Cassella and Micah Roes also recorded a technical fall for the Bearcats. With the victory, Binghamton took sole possession of first place in the EIWA's Independence Division.

Lehigh Notes
  • Lehigh has only competed in three duals so far this season. After defeating fellow EIWA program Morgan State 37-7 on Nov. 15, the Mountain Hawks fell in two ranked duals against No. 21 Pittsburgh 21-12 on Nov. 24 and No. 1 Penn State 36-3 on Dec. 8.
  • Ryan Crookham is ranked No. 1 in the country in both the FloWrestling and InterMat polls. The sophomore nearly had a perfect season in 2023-24, where he posted a record of 23-1, won the EIWA championship and finished third at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. He has won all five matches he has competed in so far this season.
  • The Mountain Hawks have a new wrestler at heavyweight with the addition of graduate transfer Owen Trephan. Trephan joins Lehigh for the spring semester after competing the last five seasons at NC State. During his time with the Wolfpack, Trephan won back-to-back ACC championships in 2023 and 2024 while qualifying for nationals each year. He ultimately recorded 64 victories throughout his time in Raleigh. Trephan recently competed unattached at Lehigh's Sheridan Tournament, where he won all three of his matches to win the championship at 285 lbs.
  • In his nine victories this season, Michael Beard has already put up four technical falls, one pin and one major decision. He also took first place at both the Clarion Open and the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. In 2024, Beard won the EIWA championship at 197 lbs., before finishing eighth at nationals to earn All-America honors for the second time in his career.
