Women’s Basketball Defeats UNH 67-44

Bearcats shot 51 percent, four players reach double figures in scoring

VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Bella Pucci led a balanced attack with 14 points and nine rebounds as Binghamton (11-6, 3-1 AE) beat New Hampshire (6-11, 0-4 AE) 67-44 in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Events Center. The win was the third straight triumph for the Bearcats.

For the second game in a row, Binghamton shot over 50 percent from the field. The Bearcats were 29-of-57 (50.9 percent). In addition, they finished with a commanding 48-28 advantage in rebounding.

Pucci - who was one of four Bearcat players to score in double figures - was 6-for-11 from the field as well as 2-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc. She also dished out a pair of assists and recorded two steals.

Redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz finished with 12 points, going 5-for-7 from the field in the process. In addition, she had four rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Junior guard Kaia Goode added 11 points in the winning effort. She also finished with a game-high five assists.

Sophomore forward Kendall Bennett, meanwhile, chipped in 10 points and five rebounds off the bench. She was 5-of-6 from the field and has now reached double figures in scoring a team-best four straight games.

Binghamton set the tone for the game right away, opening up a 12-2 lead and forcing New Hampshire to call a timeout with just 4:03 elapsed in the contest. Junior forward Camryn Fauria, who finished with nine points and five rebounds, scored four of her points during that stretch.

In the third period, the Bearcats blew the game open with nine straight points over a span of 2:27 to go up 43-25 with 4:34 left to go. Weltz led the charge with five of her points during that outburst.

From there, Binghamton built its lead to as much as 60-35 with 8:11 left in regulation.

"Rebounding today was one of our focuses," said head coach Mary Grimes. "New Hampshire is a taller team and I am proud of the way we were able to box out and defend well."

Sophomore guard Yanniah Boyd tied Pucci for the game high with nine rebounds. She also finished with six points, four assists and two steals.

Maggie Cavanaugh led New Hampshire with 11 points. Avery O'Connor added 10 points off the bench.

For New Hampshire, the game marked the return of Megan Shoniker and Kennedi Thompson to the Events Center. Shoniker, who is in her first season as the Wildcats' head coach, was an assistant at Binghamton during the 2018-19 season. The same year, Thompson was a senior on the Binghamton squad and she is now an assistant coach with New Hampshire.

Binghamton finished with a 40-26 lead in points in the paint. The Bearcats also held the Wildcats to just 28.6 percent shooting (18-of-63) for the game.

Up next for Binghamton is an 11 a.m. game on Thursday morning against Vermont. It will mark the Bearcats' annual Beyond the Classroom Game.
