Women’s Basketball Defeated 53-40 at Vermont

Boyd nets 11 points, Middleton adds 10 points

BURLINGTON, Vt. –  Anna Olson scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, leading Vermont (12-10, 7-1 AE) to a 53-40 win over Binghamton (11-10, 3-5 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Thursday evening at Patrick Gym. 

Olson - who entered the game ranked fourth in the conference with 13.8 points per game - was 7-for-15 from the field and swished her lone free throw. In addition to her point and rebound totals, she also dished out three assists, blocked a pair of shots and recorded a steal.

Teammate Bella Vito turned in a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also finished with a game-high five assists, two steals and a block. Nikola Priede, meanwhile, chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.

For the Bearcats, sophomore guard Yanniah Boyd scored a team-high 11 points to go along with nine rebounds and a game-high three steals. Fellow sophomore guard Leah Middleton finished with 10 points while sophomore forward Kendall Bennett grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.

The Catamounts took control of the game early, scoring the first 10 points in the opening four minutes of play. Olson had four of her points during that stretch.

The Bearcats, however, regrouped and used an 8-0 run over a stretch of 4:20 to pull within 22-20 with 1:10 left in the first half. Four different players scored during that span.

Nursing a 34-30 lead, Vermont used a 14-3 blitz over a stretch of 4:41 to go up 48-33 with 7:09 left in regulation. Vito had six of her points during that stretch. 

From there, the Catamounts were able to maintain a double digit lead the rest of the way.

The Bearcats out rebounded Vermont 43-31 but shot just 29.3 percent from the field (17-of-58). The Catamounts, meanwhile, shot an even 40 percent (22-of-55). 

Binghamton returns home to face UAlbany on Saturday at 2 p.m.
