Men’s Soccer Edged 1-0 by NJIT on Family Weekend

Season-high crowd of 1,242 fans attended the match

VESTAL, N.Y. – Henrique Sardinha scored with just 59 seconds remaining in the first half, lifting NJIT (3-6-3, 1-1-1 AE) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (4-9-0, 0-3-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The contest was played before a Family Weekend crowd of 1,242 fans.

The Highlanders goal was set up by Sergio Martinez Cubel, who got by a pair of defenders in the box. He then passed it to Sardinha who guided the ball into the net. It was Sardinha's first goal of the season.

Binghamton controlled play in the second half of the match, outshooting NJIT 7-3 in the process. In the end, however, the Bearcats were unable to get the equalizer.

"I'm extremely disappointed," head coach Paul Marco said. "I thought we were very good in moments in the first half and especially in the second half. I thought we played well enough to at least get a draw in the game."

Binghamton finished with an 11-8 advantage in total shots. Shots on goal were even at 2-2.

The Bearcats host Bryant next Saturday at 6 p.m. for its annual Senior Day Game.
