Men’s Soccer Defeated 2-0 by No. 2 Bryant

Bearcats hold Senior Day ceremony prior to match

VESTAL, N.Y. – Abdel Talabi and Marc Tiarch Bayot each scored a goal and Jamie Amaro tallied a pair of assists, lifting second-ranked Bryant (13-0-1, 4-0-0 AE) to a 2-0 victory over Binghamton (4-10-0, 0-4-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer match on Saturday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bulldogs were the highest nationally-ranked Division I opponent that the Bearcat men's soccer program has ever hosted.

Both Bulldog goals came off of corner kicks taken by Amaro, who entered the evening ranked No. 21 in the nation with 21 total points (nine goals and three assists). Talabi finished off the first cross from close range in the 10th minute. Bayot's goal, meanwhile, came in the 79th minute and Tiago Dias was also credited with an assist.

Bryant came into the night ranked No. 21 in the nation with 2.31 goals per match but were held slightly below their scoring average by Binghamton. Although the Bulldogs outshot the Bearcats 16-3, redshirt junior goalkeeper Jack Root tied his career high with 10 saves.

At the other end of the field, however, Bryant entered the match ranked third in the nation with a 0.39 goals against average. The Bulldogs then proceeded to hold Binghamton without a shot on goal.

"I am proud of how we competed tonight - I thought the guys were outstanding - but I'm very disappointed with our corner kick defense because we knew what was coming and were very prepared. Before the game, we knew it was going to be a challenge but hats off to Bryant. They are an outstanding team."

Before the match, the Bearcats held their annual Senior Day ceremony. This year's honorees included Luke Yates, Simon Knuewe, Rio Onwumere, Calvin Moe and Daniel Shannon.

Binghamton travels to UAlbany next Saturday for a 6 p.m. match.
