VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball has hired Mike Coss as its new assistant coach for pitching, the school announced Thursday. Coss joins a Bearcats staff that has captured a conference-best 12 combined regular season and tournament titles in the last 18 years under longtime head coach Tim Sinicki. Binghamton has advanced to the NCAA Regionals twice in the last four years, including last spring.
A native of Pompton Lakes, N.J., Coss comes from Marist, where he served seven years and most recently was the Red Foxes' pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. His scouting and talent evaluation resulted in Marist becoming a perennial MAAC contender. The Red Foxes increased their win total in each of the last two seasons and ranked among the MAAC top-3 in ERA and strikeouts last spring.
"I'm very excited to welcome Mike to our staff and the Binghamton University baseball family," Sinicki said. "Mike has an outstanding skill set and and brings a great deal of experience in many areas to our program, but his main focus with us will be to serve as pitching coach and assist in the recruitment of potential student-athletes."
Coss produced a noted four-year pitching career at Marist before graduating in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He earned a concentration in marketing and a minor in sports communication.
On the playing field, he helped lead the Red Foxes to the MAAC title and NCAA Regionals in 2017. Coss ranks fourth all-time in career appearances (78) and fifth in saves (11). Opponents hit just .245 off him during his tenure.
He began his coaching career at SUNY Cobleskill as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. Coss also served as pitching coach for the Upper Valley Nighthawks in the NECBL summer league. He has recruited and helped develop several MLB Draft Picks, including right-hander Ryan Cardona, who was taken by Cincinnati in the 19th round of the 2021 Draft.
Coss was a scholastic standout in Passaic County, N.J., earning three all-county accolades and leading his Pompton Lakes High School team to a pair of county and one sectional title.
