Volleyball on the Road for America East Showdown

Binghamton and UMBC both sit at 3-2

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team (9-11, 3-2 America East) prepares to head to Baltimore Md. for an AE matchup against UMBC (6-10, 3-2 America East) at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • UMBC leads the all-time series 27-24.
  • The two sides met earlier in the year, with Binghamton winning 3-1 at the Events Center. Viktoria Dimitrova led the team with 16 kills.
LAST TIME OUT
Binghamton played its final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, where it claimed a 3-0 victory against New Haven. Regan Kadel tallied a new career-high of 39 assists. Merima Smajlovic (13), Maya Coblentz-Brown (13) and Dimitrova (11) each tallied double-digit kills. As a team, the Bearcats recorded a .342 hitting percentage, their second-highest mark this season (.392 against Canisius Sept. 12). The Bearcats recorded six aces to New Haven's one, with Briana Binagi leading the team with three.

DIGS FOR DEFENSE
The Bearcats rank second in the conference in average digs per set (16.25) against conference opponents this season. Emily Cronkhite, who was named AE Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, leads the league in digs per set (5.05) against conference opponents.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Smajlovic leads the America East in double-doubles with 11 this season. Her biggest performances were against Fordham (16 K, 28 digs), SIUE (21 K, 13 digs), and Army (14 K, 17 digs).
