VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team continues the early stretch of its season by competing at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic Sunday at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Bearcats are one of 21 schools competing at the tournament. Joining Binghamton in the field is No. 8 Lehigh, No. 13 Northern Iowa, No. 14 Rutgers, No. 23 Army West Point, Appalachian State, Bloomsburg, Clarion, Columbia, Duke, Franklin & Marshall, Harvard, Hofstra, Indiana, Lock Haven, LIU, Maryland, Navy, Penn, Sacred Heart and Virginia. Wrestlers from each school will start in a group that is divided into multiple pools. The winners of those pools will then face each other for the opportunity to become group champions.
Last Sunday, the Bearcats opened their season at the Navy Classic. Binghamton finished seventh out of 10 teams, sending five wrestlers to the podium in the process.
Marco Albanese,
Will Ebert and
Carson Wagner each finished fourth at 165, 184 and 125 lbs., respectively,
Nate Lucier took fifth at 149 lbs., and
Cayden Bevis finished sixth at 285 lbs.
Both Albanese and Lucier also picked up a ranked win during the tournament. Lucier defeated No. 18 Wynton Denkins of Virginia 4-2, while Albanese took down No. 23 Noah Mulvaney of Bucknell in his opening match 6-5.
