Bearcats are lone America East program with two selections

VESTAL, N.Y. - Junior defender Sophia Garofalo and sophomore midfielder Anna Buckwalter have been selected to the ECAC Women's Soccer Second Team, the association announced Friday.

The organization selected two teams of 11 players each among its 78 Division I programs. Binghamton was the only America East program (and one of five overall) to have multiple players chosen. Garofalo and Buckwalter also become the first Binghamton women's soccer players ever selected for the elite honor.

The ECAC awards cap a busy postseason of honors for head coach Neel Bhattacharjee and his program. Binghamton completed an historic 10-2-5 season that featured the program's third regular season title in four years and school records with a 13-game unbeaten streak (8-0-5) and just one regular-season loss. The team produced a second unbeaten conference season in the last three years and also went unbeaten at home during the regular season (6-0-1). In the last four seasons, the Bearcats have lost just three conference games (20-3-9, 77%) - the highest win percentage among all America East members. The Bearcats were one of just five teams across the country that closed the regular season with one or fewer losses (Memphis, Notre Dame, Stanford, Fairfield).

Earlier in the month, Garofalo was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Third Team. She was the America East Defender of the Year, becoming the first Bearcat to win the award in the program's 24-year history in the America East. She also repeated as a first team all-conference selection.

Buckwalter was the America East Co-Midfielder of the Year and first team all-conference pick after registering three goals and three assists and logging 82 minutes per game. She is a two-time all-conference selection and 2024 America East Rookie of the Year.
